The 100% wool Skipper's Sweater | Douwe is our most contemporary yet authentic men's item that we are adding back to our evergreen collection. This beautiful sweater, with ribbed cuffs and a roll-neck with zipper, is characterized by the coarse purl stitch, with which this sweater is fully fashion knitted. The sweater is made from a soft, yet durable 100% Sport Loden Wool from the Austrian spinner Schoeller. The yarn approaches the softness of the well-known Merino wool, but is much stronger. This makes the sweater not only tough and warm, but also easy to wash!

The Douwe skipper's sweater is full of authentic details. Since 1886, our Rooscap skipper's cap has had all its haberdashery in black. The cord, the buttons, and the oak leaf band, all black. We have also added these characteristic details to the Douwe skipper's sweater. You will find black zippers, black labels, and a black gift on every Douwe skipper's sweater. In addition, we have also incorporated details from the past into the sweater. All cuffs are finished with our signature stitch. This stitch has a history where all villages and cities had their own detail. In this way, it was possible to find out where the crew of a ship or a drowned person came from. This is now a detail on our items, but in the past, it served to trace the origin of sailors. A wonderful story, isn't it?

The sweater is versatile to wear, both indoors and outdoors, and easy to combine with many styles. Due to its tough appearance, but luxurious material, the sweater suits every moment of the day and year. Wool is often seen as a winter material that only serves for extra warmth. What is often not known is that wool is thermoregulating. Wool has the property of keeping you warm, without feeling uncomfortable. This way, the Douwe skipper's sweater keeps you at exactly the right temperature. Even after a bike ride where you were in a bit more of a hurry than you would have liked ;)

Doge jo wol?

As mentioned, we make the Douwe Skipper's Sweater from a durable wool quality, spun by Schoeller. This yarn distinguishes itself by its quality. This 100% wool yarn approaches the softness of Merino wool, but has the strength of scouring wool. So the sweater can even withstand seawater. This yarn has these properties without being stiff.

This wool quality is referred to by us as Doge Jo Wol. "Doge Jo Wol?" is a well-known Frisian saying and means: "Are you decent?". Well, and whether our wool is decent! The wool is obtained from sheep that are kept in a good way. There is no animal abuse and during the processing, people, animals, and the environment are treated with respect.
