CARE

Your favourite sweater that keeps getting better. The one you keep wearing, season after season. That's where it starts for us.
Not just how something is made, but how long it lasts. We can make products in the fairest way possible, but the biggest impact we make is by making the lifespan of the products as long as possible.

OUR TIPS!

Washing
  • Are you sure the item needs to be washed already?

For woollen items, you generally only need to wash them if there's a cosmetic reason to do so. Are you bothered by unpleasant odours? Hang the item outside, for example, or in a steamy bathroom. Because wool is antibacterial, the unpleasant odours will disappear naturally. If you're not so patient, you can also freshen up the product with a handheld steamer.

We do recommend washing the item before storing it for a longer period, for example, at the end of winter. This is because clothes moths are less likely to settle in washed clothes. You can read more about clothes moths below or in this blog.

What applies to wool also applies to a lesser extent to cotton. Cotton can be refreshed perfectly using these tips, so you don't have to wash it as often. This significantly extends the lifespan of these items. Washing is quite harsh on the fibres. Furthermore, washing less is, of course, better for the environment!

  • Check the washing label carefully.
  • Pay close attention to the programme you choose:

Although various programmes can all wash at 30 degrees, it is often very important for wool products that you choose the wool wash programme. And even with a wool wash programme, you need to be careful with some washing machines, as they are set to 40 degrees or too high a spin speed by default. So make sure the temperature is set correctly and that you spin at a maximum of 800 revolutions.

  • Do not use too much detergent & use a sustainable detergent:

Conventional detergents are full of unnecessary additives that make them smell nice or look appealing. These ingredients are not only harmful to clothing but also to the environment. For example, most conventional detergents contain microplastics, so they sparkle nicely. These microplastics immediately disappear into surface water. In addition, detergent manufacturers generally recommend a much too high dosage of detergent. These extra additives & the excessive dosage are harsh on clothing, causing colours to fade faster and yarn to wear out more quickly. It also causes pilling & felting/shrinking of a product. To make it easier for our customers, we have developed a detergent made of pure soap together with the Zeepfabriek Wijnjewoude.

  • Wash with similar colours and inside out:

If a product has zippers, close them. This way, they are best protected against wear and tear.

  • We advise against hand washing:

The reason for this is that it is often difficult to estimate the correct temperature for a hand wash, and too much detergent is often used in a hand wash. For wool, both washing too cold and too hot can cause felting & shrinking.

Drying
  1. Tumble dryer prohibited: For every garment, the tumble dryer is a massive assault on the yarn. This applies to all materials!
  2. Allow all our products to dry flat: This prevents the item from deforming.
Ironing & Steaming

You may iron our clothes, but please ensure you use the wool setting.

We prefer a handheld steamer. Besides being much more user-friendly in our opinion, you can also use it to refresh your items between washes.

Wear

We use natural materials. These, just like us humans, occasionally need a little rest. This allows the fiber to return to its original shape, making it stronger.

Therefore, our advice is to let your clothes rest for a day after you've worn them for a day. You'll be amazed by the effect!

Clothes moth

Due to the changing climate in the Netherlands, the clothes moth is on the rise. This means we need to better protect ourselves against them.

The clothes moth nests in clothing made of natural fibers. The larvae of this tiny insect feed on the fibers of the clothing during their initial period. This results in annoying holes.

For example, we sell cedar wood that you can place in your closet to keep moths away. They don't like this scent.

Furthermore, it may be wise to wash clothing before storing it for a long period, and then store it in a sealed bag or container.

We have also written an extensive blog about how to prevent, detect, and get rid of moths.

Pilling

We do everything we can to prevent pilling as much as possible. However, we cannot always avoid it. With the tips above, we significantly reduce the chance of your items pilling.

Natural product

Wool is a natural product. Pilling can therefore always occur. This often has nothing to do with the quality of the yarn.

  • An example: most luxurious Cashmere yarns pill enormously as standard. While our stiffest sweater, the Frisian skipper's sweater, hardly pills at all.

It often has to do with a large combination of factors. One person is more susceptible to it than another. In addition, external factors such as a high-pile carpet (static electricity) or an abrasive label in a jacket or bag can play a role.

Fabric shaver

If an item does pill, it is very easy to solve. You do this with a fabric shaver. Often 1 to 2 treatments are sufficient to remove the pilling for good. We recommend buying a good quality fabric shaver. Cheap devices often do more harm than good because the blades are not sharp enough. We sell the Steamery fabric shaver ourselves. Our experience has shown that this is one of the best on the market, but there are also alternatives available.

Service

We also offer a fabric shaving service. For this, we only charge the shipping costs for sending it back and forth. Currently, this amounts to €15. If you are in the area, feel free to drop off your sweater and pick it up again!

Repairs

Should you, despite all these tips & tricks, still encounter a defect in an item, don't stress! We offer an extensive repair service. Our seamstress is a true clothing artist. Please note: for simple jobs, it's often better to go to the tailor around the corner, as that saves both cost and time!

We offer a 2-year warranty on our sweaters, but there are conditions attached to this. We have created a separate page where we specify all repairs.
