ROOSCAP | Original Skipper Cap
Since 1886
Our Roos cap skipper's hat is the authentic Dutch skipper's hat that we have been making since 1886. For over 130 years, the hat has remained the foundation of our company and is still an unchanged part of our collection. In 1886, Johannes Hildebrandus Roosenstein started his business in 'Sailing Caps and Men's Fashion' on the Suupmarkt in Sneek. He learned the craft of hat-making from the renowned hatmaker Adam Zelle, who is perhaps even better known as the father of Mata Hari. The knowledge and experience were passed down within the Roosenstein family from generation to generation. Our Rooscap is the official Dutch skipper's hat. In recent decades, the cap was worn by skippers and fishermen throughout the country. Earlier caps by J.H. Roosenstein can still be admired in the Fries Scheepvaart Museum. Today, the cap is no longer just workwear for skippers and fishermen. It is a beautiful accessory with a special story!
Uncle Ab
The cap is characterized by its good fit and unique details. For example, the sticker on the inside of the cap, also known as the 'mirror', was designed by the famous artist and uncle; Ab Roosenstein. An interesting fact about Uncle Ab is that he is the designer of the world-famous Gaastra logo. This well-known Sneek brand later became a major competitor to his brother and our grandfather Frans Roosenstein.
The Rooscap is a timeless classic and the only authentic Dutch skipper's cap available. If you are looking for a unique cap of the finest quality, the Rooscap is perfect for you!
To determine the correct size for the Rooscap, measure the circumference of your head just above the top of your ears. The number of centimeters around your head is then your size.
The Rooscap can be worn both with and without an anchor.
