ARMS | Skipper's Jumper 100% wool
This Roosenstein Wolke classic is based on the authentic English skipper's or sailor's sweater 'The Arms'. In our early days, we still made the original Arms; the sweater was knitted in one seamless piece, and there were only two seams at the neck. These were covered by two chamois leathers. These chamois leathers are still found in the sweater, but the circular knitting of a sweater is a technique no longer used. Fortunately, with current new techniques, we have now combined the incredible quality and characteristic appearance of the Arms with more wearing comfort. The tightly knitted wool keeps you dry in a typical Dutch drizzle.
The sweater is knitted in a high-quality, almost indestructible virgin wool quality, with the highest possible anti-pilling properties (class 4 out of 4). This is done by a knitter in Belgium with whom we have been working continuously for more than 40 years. The model is straight and has two original points in the hem. The most characteristic feature of the Arms is, of course, the 'Godsoog' or diamond pattern, as a distinguishing mark of the former seafaring community. This indicated where sailors came from. The chamois leathers on the inside of the collar/shoulder are also present. These used to cover the only seam in the sweater and are still a wonderful reference to the craftsmanship of yesteryear! In short: a fantastic sweater full of history!
Material
We make the Arms Skipper Sweater from a durable wool quality, spun by Schoeller. This yarn distinguishes itself by its quality. This 100% wool yarn approaches the softness of Merino wool but has the strength of virgin wool. This makes the sweater hard-wearing and even resistant to seawater. This yarn possesses these properties without being stiff.
We refer to this wool quality as Doge Jo Wol. "Doge Jo Wol?" is a well-known Frisian expression and means: "Are you any good?" Well, our wool certainly is good! The wool is obtained from sheep that are kept in a humane way. There is no animal cruelty, and the processing respects people, animals, and the environment.
